New Releases for 01/24/12

SECKMANS SELECTIONS

MOVIES

50/50 [DVD / Blu-ray]

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Adam, a strait-laced 27-year-old who works in Seattle public radio with his hedonistic best friend, Rogen's Kyle. Back pain brings Adam to an oncologist who diagnoses cancer, prescribes chemotherapy, and recommends counseling, which leads him to Katie, a doctoral student (Anna Kendrick) who makes up in compassion what she lacks in experience. At the hospital, Adam also befriends two cancer patients (Philip Baker Hall and Matt Frewer) who share their foul-mouthed wisdom--along with marijuana-laced macaroons.

Real Steel [DVD / Blu-ray]

Sometime in the not-too-distant future, boxing has been outlawed and replaced by fighting matches with robots. Big robots. Hulking, rock 'em, sock 'em mechanical robots. Yep, you heard it...rock 'em, sock 'em robots...

Paranormal Activity 3 [DVD \ Blu-ray]

Whistleblower [DVD / Blu-ray]

I can't recommend Real Steel enough. I went in with ZERO expectations and ended up really enjoying it. It's a little cutesy towards the end, but I was amped during the final fight.

Side note: It's one of the rare movies that focuses on the father/son relationship. If that's a selling point for you, I suggest you check it out.

I loved 50/50, but I'm not sure if it's a buy for me...maybe in the bargain bin. :)
